Bonjour!

I wanted to be bilingual from the moment I was sent over to ask a kind stranger, “Où est la plage?” It was my first visit to France, on a family holiday to Brittany, when I was 11 years old. Yes, he did reply in French. No, I didn’t understand what he said. But the encounter stayed with me, igniting my desire to communicate and connect with people in different languages.

We did eventually find the beach though, had a great summer holiday, and then I started secondary school, where I discovered I actually had an aptitude for languages.

Since I left school, I’ve added a few strings to my bow: 

  • University-level qualifications in interpreting, translation and marketing (MSc, DPSI, BA Hons)
  • 5 years’ immersion in French language and culture (in the Loire Valley and Northern France)
  • Over a decade in international business development and process improvement in the UK
  • Independent French-English interpreter and translator
  • Fully qualified member of the Institute of Translating and Interpreting (MITI)

GUIDELINES IN ENGLISH

As a committee member of the ITI French Network and an active member of a number of other ITI networks, I may be able to put you in touch with a fellow interpreter or translator, if you are looking for assistance with other languages combinations.

Besides advocating for foreign languages in schools as a Business Language Champion, I enjoy many aspects of my native Scottish culture and adopted French culture: from ceilidh dancing and hillwalking to café culture and les arts de la table. At the weekend, you might find me in Scotland’s capital, offering guided tours of Edinburgh Castle in French through Scotland City Tours.

I love helping people from different countries communicate with each other and build connections across cultures. Using my language skills in French and English and my experience of both cultures, I’m able to fulfil your language requirements, bringing a human touch to your interactions that helps build trust and develop long-term partnerships.
